The other is either an NPC or can be controlled by a second player.

You can have two party members and a pet, but you only control one party member. Like the other games in the franchise, Legend of Mana is a by-the-numbers action brawler. There's some fun material, but do not play Legend of Mana for the plot. Mostly, the narrative is an excuse to have smaller character interactions and engage with gameplay mechanics. There's interesting world-building hidden throughout, but it depends on you to unlock some of the quests. More often than not, you'll do something incredibly basic, and that's it. There are several potential core plots, but they're disconnected vignettes that occasionally overlap. The core problem with The Legend of Mana's plot is that there isn't really one. They must use magical artifacts that contain the memories and history of the world to slowly replenish the land and bring back people and the mystic power of Mana to the world. Players control a nameless protagonist with no history who is tasked with rebuilding the world. Centuries passed, and the Mana Tree slowly regrew. Many years ago, the life-giving Mana Tree burned to the ground, and the remaining races of the world engaged in a horrible war that devastated the land. An additional soundtrack was also prepared for the remaster, and the game lets you switch between the original and refreshed tracks.Legend of Mana: Remastered is set in the ruined world of Fa'Diel. The game works in much higher resolutions, and the whole thing looks decent. Stylistically, the graphics do not differ from those of the original release, but the developers took care to adapt them to modern standards. Unlike Trials of Mana, the refreshed Legend of Mana has not abandoned the two-dimensional visuals. So the player takes care of a pet, allowing the pet to gain experience and the hero to gain items that can then be uploaded to the main game. Originally only available in Japan and requiring a PocketStation accessory, it functions on a similar principle to the iconic Tamagochi. Along with the game's debut, Western players can finally check out the Ring Ring Land mini-game. Legend of Mana remaster is not only the story campaign, which can be played individually or in co-op with a friend. All this can also change depending on the artifacts adjacent to the location. The higher the mana level, the more effective the spells are during clashes in that area. These locations also describe the so-called Mana Levels for each of the eight types of magic assigned to mythical creatures such as jinn, fireflies, salamanders and gnomes. These differ only in appearance, but also in the monsters and items present in them.

Then we place them in a place of our choice so that a city, dungeon or other location appears there. To change it, we have to find artifacts in which the old lands were sealed. When we start the adventure, most of the map is literally empty.

The biggest novelty introduced in Legend of Mana is Land Make system.

From time to time we hit the powerful bosses and with the progress in the game we gain experience and develop the skills of the hero. Monsters we defeat in the fight, in which we use magic and weaponry, in the case of weapons we also use their special attacks called Special Techs. During the game, together with up to two companions, we explore locations where we encounter NPCs and monsters. Like previous remasters of the Mana series, Legend of Mana is a top-down action RPG. The task of the player-led hero or heroine is to restore the Mana Tree, the entire world and its magical energy to its former glory. Thus broke out a war between the inhabitants of Fa'Diel, which eventually led to many lands being sealed in ancient artifacts. It was then that the Mana Tree, the source of life and magical energy, was almost burnt to the ground. However, at the beginning the world of Fa'Diel is almost empty due to the cataclysm, which took place nine centuries earlier.
